About Us

Founded by an environmental biologist, science writer, and textile journalist back in 2006 as a print magazine, Ecotextile News has evolved to become the only dedicated environmental news platform for global textile and clothing industry supply chains. It’s still published six times per year as a print magazine but also has a worldwide online readership who access breaking news via a digital platform that includes written, audio, and visual news formats that also feed into a mobile news app.

This pioneering industry resource is published by MCL News & Media and is used on a weekly basis by tens of thousands of executives at leading apparel brands, retailers, forward-thinking textile suppliers and a range of industry stakeholders – including policymakers – to help reduce the impact of the industry on our planet.

Editorial Philosophy

Everything we do at Ecotextile News is independent, free from bias and executed with the utmost integrity. These are our core values as a small, but independent publisher which packs a punch that’s at least equal to – and perhaps bigger – than any of the corporate publishers found in the fashion and apparel industry space.

As a real-time, competitive news service whose reputation rests on reliability, we also provide accuracy, speed and exclusivity as part of our editorial services and remain totally independent of commercial and political influences.

Our content is provided by humans and not AI. We employ in-house journalists and engage with independent freelance journalists, respected industry experts, and well-placed industry insiders to deliver state-of-the-industry news in real time. The way in which MCL journalists and contributors action these values is governed by the MCL News Code of Conduct.

MCL News & Media

Established in 2004, MCL News & Media is rated by many as the leading media platform for the global textile and apparel industries. It has a wealth of experience spanning 30 years in B2B magazine and on-line publishing, and brings together expert analysis, in-depth comment, and the latest news to a range of different textile and apparel professionals across the globe – from the factory floor to the boardroom.

Our products include the market leading print and online bi-monthly magazines: Ecotextile News, Knitting Trade Journal, and Sustainable Nonwovens, along with industry resources such as the Inside Guide to Cotton & Sustainability, Due Diligence in Textile Sourcing, and our popular Textile Standards & Legislation.

Along with Marks & Spencer and The University of Leeds, MCL News & Media was also co-founder of the RITE Group – the very first not-for-profit organisation dedicated to Reducing the Impact of Textiles on the Environment that was absorbed into the University of Leeds in 2013.

MCL is also the brand owner and of the Planet Textiles event on sustainability, which successfully launched in Hong Kong in March 2010 and since then has taken place alongside major industry events in Shanghai, Copenhagen, Milan, Vancouver, and Tirupur.

MCL News & Media is proud to be a member of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA). EOCA is a not-for-profit organisation funded by a group of businesses involved in the European outdoor industry, which raises funds to put directly into grassroots conservation projects worldwide.
